Leyloom

Photograph a ley quadrat from above. Leyloom splits the canopy into grass, legume, forb, senescent and bare ground, then logs legume share and functional diversity for each plot and date. Tune the thresholds against your hand-sorted reference quadrats before trusting the numbers.

For the photo currently loaded, enter the % cover you measured by hand (visual estimate or botanical separation), then save the pair. Leyloom reports its error against your reference.

Method: each pixel is converted to hue, saturation and brightness, then assigned a group by rules (green hue below the split is grass, above it legume; bright white or saturated pink, purple or yellow pixels are flowers; yellow-brown is senescent; the rest is bare). H' is the Shannon index over grass, legume and forb cover. Classification uses colour (hue, saturation, brightness) only, so it separates functional groups, not species, and shadows, wet leaves and camera white balance shift results. Cover is a pixel share of the visible canopy, not biomass. Validate against botanical separation of the same quadrats and report the agreement. Data stays in this browser only; export CSV to keep it.
